Wanted: Resource Persons to Volunteer
We welcome those who are willing to share their talent, skill, and passion for inclusion and accessibility through ministry with people with disabilities. While we can’t compensate you with dollars, our volunteers are appreciated and rewarded in many ways.
You could write an article about your church or district’s success stories. Perhaps you have a passion about a specific disability and its challenges that would relate to United Methodist church families. Share your ideas. You may have technical skills or gifts of the spirit that will help United Methodists with disabilities. Consider fund raising, writing, organizing, or seeing the big picture. You can find these and other ideas by reading our Resource Person Roles information sheet. We’d like to hear from you today!
If you are a hands-on person, please consider opportunities in your local church or conference. Offer to be in ministry with people who have disabilities and volunteer side-by-side. Options may include:
- Feed My Starving Children
- Food Banks
- Filling Cleaning Buckets for distribution to people who have faced natural disasters (i.e., flooding)
- Be greeters
- Assist in classrooms
- Participate in joint youth – adult with intellectual disabilities service projects
- Participate in UMW/UMM service projects making cards for military persons over seas
If you are interested in writing for The Voice, our blog, or other publications, see our Author’s Guide.
